You're Experienced & Ready to Publish the Next Book
You don’t really need a starting point. You know what you’re doing.
You’ve published before. You’re ready to write or publish the next book. You don’t need a walkthrough, a checklist, or permission to begin. You know what this takes.
So I’m not going to give you a starting point. What I’ll do instead is give you something worth thinking about as you move forward, and then tell you what’s here if you want support along the way.
Here’s one thing to consider as you move on to writing the next book (and the next):
Understanding your brand is going to matter more and more as you build your backlist. Take a moment to think about what the promise of your business and books is. (Whether you’re writing fiction or nonfiction, the act of publishing is a business.)
What are you consistently offering readers? What can they count on from your books? What ties them together, maybe not in content, but in theme? What’s going to make the reader say an “easy yes” to this next book (and the next)?
Having these answers can help make the decisions of what to write and how to market it easier.
And not for nothing, but you’ve already done this once, so you’re not recreating the wheel. Lean into that experience, but don’t forget to be open to continuing to learn.
If you want help figuring this out:
Your Author Brand Bible is designed for exactly this. It’s a full audit of your author brand (your books, your platforms, your messaging) with a personalized 90-day action plan for strengthening it. Particularly built for authors with 2+ books who are ready to grow with intention instead of starting from scratch on every launch. $500.
If you want support as you work on this:
1:1 Consult: A focused Zoom or Voxer session for strategy, pivot decisions, or a specific problem you’re circling. Starts at $150.
The Acknowledgments: A small author community where I’m actively present. Good for ongoing conversations, feedback, and not doing this alone. $50/month.
If you’re thinking about pivoting, or how to make this book work differently than the last one:
Or if you have anything specific you want my take on, a Jumpstart Session is the fastest way to get my input. 20 minutes, Voxer, $20. You tell me what’s on your mind, I help you think through it.

About Angela James
I’ve spent over 20 years inside publishing, editing more than 1,000 books, launching Harlequin’s first digital-first press, and helping authors at every stage figure out what their book needs and what to do next. I’ve worked with debut authors and #1 New York Times bestsellers, and what I’ve learned is that the confusion and overwhelm don’t discriminate. They show up for everyone.
What helps is having someone in your corner who knows the industry, will give you straight information, and actually cares whether you succeed. That’s what this session is designed to be.
I don’t judge what you’re writing, why you’re writing it, or where you are in the process. I just help you figure out your next step.
