I’ve spent 20+ years working in publishing as an editor, editorial director, and author career coach. I launched Harlequin’s Carina Press, the first digital imprint inside a major traditional publisher. (You might know one of our books: Heated Rivalry. You’re welcome.) I’ve been profiled in Fast Company as a digital publishing innovator, served as Executive Editor at Samhain Publishing, and edited over 1,000 books across romance, thrillers, women’s fiction, and more.
But here’s the thing I’ve never been able to shake: Over all those years, I watched talented, hardworking authors stall out — not because they lacked the skill or the drive, but because they were getting advice from people who didn’t know the industry, didn’t know their goals, and sometimes had their own agendas. Authors were building careers on a foundation of guesswork, and it was costing them years.
I created The Acknowledgments because I believe every author deserves better than that. You deserve guidance that’s actually tailored to where you are and where you want to go — not generic best practices handed down from a stage.
My job inside this community isn’t to tell you what to do. It’s to help you figure out what’s right for you — and to make sure you never have to figure it out alone.
