It’s hard to keep your creative energy going during these times of stress, so let me give you three offers that can help keep you on the publishing track but don’t require too much creative inspiration!
This is the newsletter that went out to my newsletter list yesterday, with some parts redacted because the first offer was an exclusive for my newsletter audience. But there’s still two offers I hope might give you the opportunity to keep creating during these times of stress!
Dear Friends,
Like many of you, my daily life the past few weeks has been consumed with Covid-19 and all that’s coming with it at a rapid pace. Thankfully, for now my family is healthy and happy, and we’re able to remain relatively isolated except my husband, who’s an Instacart driver/shopper. He’s still going out into the community to get groceries to those who must completely self-isolate at this point. The challenge for those who work for Instacart and fill orders is…there’s not much food on the shelves at any given time! Instacart has probably been one of the businesses seeing a huge boom in revenue (if only they would pass that on to their gig workers!) and that will probably continue for the foreseeable future so I expect my husband will continue to do this work until he’s no longer able to for any reason.
Meanwhile, my teen is experimenting with recipes—today she made strawberry crepes for the first time!—so there’s some benefit for me coming from her enforced stay at home. I’ll take those benefits as I can get them!
As for me, I’m still busy and have projects due and deadlines to meet now and ongoing, so I’m closing my office door a lot to get work done while my family works out their new routines. But I realized that I do want to attempt to help out writers who are quarantined and looking for ways to still be engaged in their writing career. I have some offers below, but if you ever have any one-off publishing questions you’d like to ask, please reach out on social media or just hit reply to this newsletter (I love getting email, seriously, I’m weird like that) and I’m happy to share my knowledge on your question—if I have any!
For those of you who are looking for something writing related to occupy your mind and your time for the next few weeks, I have 3 short-term, unique offers while we beat the virus & keep ourselves moving forward in small but meaningful ways during quarantine.
Offer #1: EXCLUSIVE to newsletter subscribers. This offer will not be made to non-newsletter subscribers at this time—I’ll revisit that decision based on the newsletter response and my available bandwidth, but for now, this is just for newsletter subscribers! If you’re a subscriber, I sent the newsletter out yesterday so it’s in your inbox!
Take advantage of a 30 minute consult for $50—this is a discount on my normal one-hour rate of $125. Schedule a 30-minute consult with me to get advice on going indie, how to market, book plotting, series plotting, agent advice, goal setting, publishing strategy—basically, it’s your 30 minutes to do with as you please and set some goals and strategy for your publishing career over the next year!
Offer #2: Take advantage of a 30 minute consult and 1 chapter verbal critique (max 3000 words) for $125.
This isn’t a service I normally offer, but I’m offering it through April 24th, 2020. Schedule a 30 minute consult, send me one chapter (or segment) of your book of no more than 2500 words (can be a chapter of your choice from your manuscript, you can utilize the whole 2500 words by sending more than one chapter), and get verbal feedback from me on the story and craft. No written feedback will be provided but I’ll give you as much verbal feedback as I can find to give. You can also use part of the 30 minutes to squeeze in questions you have about the publishing industry, your writing, or anything else you want to ask.
Available for scheduling on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays now through April 24th and limited to two consultations per day.
Booking can be done directly through this link and an invoice will be mailed to you via Stripe.
If you’d like to convo with me before you book, please email me at angelajameseditor@gmail.com
Offer #3: Before You Hit Send DISCOUNT: I try to save discounts on BYHS to just a few times a year and this seems like the right time to offer one!
Since I know many people have time off and may be looking for a no-pressure way to invest some energy in their writing, but you don’t quite necessarily have the mental energy for writing a book right now, I’m putting BYHS on discount through the end of March 2020. Work at your own pace, have access for the next 3 months, do one lesson a day and feel as though you’ve accomplished something ? Enter code LEARNNOW at checkout for the discount. There’s an option for both a payment plan and a one-time payment—if you choose to pay in full, your discount will be more significant.
If you’re not familiar with Before You Hit Send (it’s awesome and so full of information you won’t believe it!), you can get more information here and click through to register! Don’t forget to enter code LEARNNOW for the discount.
I hope there’s something in here that appeals and might help you out as you set a new schedule, new goals and new self-care for yourself over the next few weeks. Remember: there’s no one way to handle the stress of this situation and we’re all doing our best to get through this. Choose kindness, not just to others, but to yourself as well–especially to yourself.
I look forward to hearing from some of you. Until next time, here’s wishing you joy in both writing and discovering books you love, remember and recommend.
